Back in February of 2016, the Honorable Leticia Astacio was found on the side of 490 with two flat tires and a damaged vehicle. She had been on her way into the Rochester City Court to take the bench when a Trooper approached her in her disabled vehicle. After having Judge Astacio perform a series of field sobriety tests, the trooper determined that she was under the influence of alcohol and she was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.
After proceeding with a bench trial, she was convicted of Driving While Intoxicated on August 22, 2016. Seventh District Administrative Judge, Honorable Craig Doran, indicated for the foreseeable future Judge Astacio will not return to the bench and will instead be performing “chamber work”. Further disciplinary actions are also being considered by the Commission of Judicial Commission.
What are your thoughts, Rochester? Should Judge Astacio be allowed to take the bench again?
